You eco-freaks should get a life and stop bothering people who need to drive a bigger vehicle than you approve of. Tough shit if you don't like my SUV. I don't like your little tin can pieces of shit but I don't care if you drive them. Just don't cross in front of a real car or you may end up in the ER.

This isn't a let me drive what I want and you can drive what you want issue. You drive a gas-guzzler you screw up the planet more than if you drive a Prius. A lot more. You also give money to Bin Laden, help ruin the balance of payments of the U.S and take up 1.5 compact parking spaces at Trader Joe's when you can't find a regular sized one because all the other gluttens with oversized hogs have beaten you to the regular sized spaces.

That's why anyone who makes the decision to buy a gas-guzzler when they could buy a gas-miser in this day and age is a self-centered ignoramius who is more concerned about their consumer desires than they are in the survival of the human race and civilization. Not quite as bad as a child molester but worthy of a sound spanking. I suggest you go out back and find a couple of good sturdy switches and get ready for a few welts on your backside.

Yeah I want to puke when I see the suburban parents who will do everything to provide for their kids, music lessons, tutoring, designer bike helmets in case, God forbid, they fall down, free range meat, organic produce, and a gas guzzling SUV (with a "Keep Tahoe Blue" sticker) to help put another nail in the environment that won't be able to support their precious offspring that they are supposedly so concerned about.

If they really cared about doing everything possible to insure their kids future they would drive a hybrid, become vegetarians and move out of the McMansion and into a yurt powered by the methane of their solid waste excretions.

If you are so concerned about the environment I would think you could do more than piss people off putting bumper stickers on their cars. Seems pretty juvenile to me. If you did something that would actually affect people in a positive way to show more concern about your global warming issue you would actually accomplish something. Right now you are just a bunch of juveniles having no effect on the environment.

Juvenile? No it's more sinister than that. It's partially revenge pure and simple. You know, like when someone in the middle of the desert drinks all the water in the canteen and leaves nothing for the rest of his companions. You can't blame them for lining up and each giving him a good wack for his lack of consideration for the rest of the crew.

And perhaps, like a child who is punished for unacceptable behavior, he will remember his pummeling and think twice before doing the same thing again. Or better yet, maybe he (or her) will be shamed by his bad behavior, realize what a jerk he has been and exchange his (or her) gas-guzzler and MacMansion for the contemplative and less energy intensive life as a monk

Well, hmmmm…I think you (The person listed as Moderator) might have missed the point.  The person with their canteen of water probably had some self control.  If all the SUV’s ran out of gas because of a shortage and the guy with the super fuel efficient car was driving around using the remaining fuel for his own car and the SUV drivers lined up and each gave him a good wack for his lack of consideration for the rest of the drivers…would that be fair?

There are other ways to get to people:  for example teach about saving not just the environment but their money.  How about being less offensive and go through the proper chains to find a more socially acceptable ways to solve the problem?

Hey SmokingJoker; did you realize that the Prius didn’t really get great gas mileage when it first came out.  It actually got worse gas mileage than that newer Ford Hybrid SUV…what gives…an SUV with 35mpg and yes I checked out the prius when it first came out.  The sticker on the vehicle showed worse gas mileage than my current car. (I think it was the lower 30’s, if I remember correctly it was 32 or 33mpg)  People used to love to tell me that they got really high gas mileage but the EPA sticker on the car said otherwise.  Oh, and I don’t think Bin Laden is getting paid by gas-guzzlers…well if he is then the guy driving the 40+mpg car is also paying him too, just not as much…something to think about…ey?

By the way the bin laden guy is getting a lot of his money for his group primarily through other sources.  The gas is coming from different countries.  Do the research.  It’s no secret; it’s been in the news the past several years.

Here is a little course in fuel cost:  The cost to process and sell fuel in the Middle East is about 5 to 60 cents a gallon AT THE PUMP there.  The cost to transport oil to the US is about 2 cents a gallon.  Fuel cost in the US is about $3 and about $5 in Europe.  Most of your money isn’t going to the Middle East.

People already see environmentalist activists as not too mentally stable.  Please stop enforcing that image for those of us that are environmentally conscious and level headed so we can effect change to improve the quality of the air we breathe and help manage our resources more wisely.

ABC seems to be missing the point. How many MPG's the first Prius got and where Bin Laden gets his money is beside the point. The point is we are at 380 ppm of CO2. At 450 ppm (in about 20 years) global warming becomes a self-perpetuating process. At that point we can completely stop producing man-made CO2 and it will not matter. The climate will keep on warming for the next several hundred years. The worse case scenario is that the mid latitudes of the planet (land and ocean) will become desert. No rain forests (they can take about another 2 degrees Celsius increase before they die off), no fish, and no people living anywhere but the Arctic which will be the only place cool enough to support crops and people. So imagine the future of humanity consisting of a few million people living under Siberian warlords. The future generations of 99 % of everyone now alive will never exist (go to http://www.imchangingtheclimate.com/Consequences.html for a full description of the next 100 years).

Now maybe it won't play out that bad. But maybe it will. That there is any possibility that this climatic holocaust is our future is reason enough to jail every SUV owner and charge them with crimes against the future of humanity. All the meaningless arguments you make about inconsequential issues pale when compared to the man-made road of possible self-destruction we are driving down.<br></p>

Can you post exact report name and page number you are getting your references from on the http://www.imchangingtheclimate.com/Consequences.html references.  There is quite a large amount of material.  This reminds me of a write up at work for something, I don't remember the exact thing but their reference was a something I had never seen.  It was the Rainbow Series they sighted...well I've been told that it's about a 6 foot stack of books and I found that the series has nothing to do with what I was working with; I was working with Hazmat.  Without a volume, page, and paragraph reference in a reference you are either going to have people that just blindly believe you or think you are making up your reference.  I've caught people faking references before.

I like a couple of the figures with a logarithmic scale to accentuate the data.
It shows a partiality of the data to one's side.

As for the reference I used it was published in the Independent, a British newspaper. The writer was Mark Lynas who has just published the book "Six Degrees" which gives a detailed description, one degree at a time, as to what changes we can expect to see on planet earth.
